Every presentation created in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac has a secret alter-ego of sorts, and that alter-ego is none other than Notes Page view, which you display by choosing View→Notes Page. Notes pages have many uses:

  • Speaker notes: Putting notes to yourself in the Notes section of either Notes Page view or Normal view is a good way to add reminders about topics that you want to talk about, but don’t want to clutter your slides with. You can display notes as the presentation is running using Presenter view, but the notes aren’t visible to your audience.

  • Notes: The Notes Page view is a place to put all that extra text that you want to put onto your slides and read to your audience, but you wisely choose not to abuse your audience that way. Plus you can rearrange the layout of Notes Page view. When you choose to distribute your presentation, in the Print dialog you can choose Notes under Print What and then choose PDF to make a version to print or share.

  • Documentation and annotation: It’s always advisable to cite your sources. Put hyperlinks and citations into your notes to keep your slides clutter-free, yet have the information immediately available.

  • Supplemental content: You can put more than just text into Notes. Other objects work just as well, and you can format just about everything. Supplemental material is visible only in Notes Page view, and is not seen in Normal view.

Note: The following steps apply only to PowerPoint 2007. You can't save a presentation as a webpage in PowerPoint 2010 or later. For workarounds in later versions of PowerPoint, see Options for later versions of PowerPoint below.

  1. Open the presentation or Web page that you want to publish to the web.

  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Save As.

  3. In the Save in list, select a path or location for the webpage on a web server.

    If you want people to have access to a presentation that you published to the web, you must specify a Web server or other available computer when you choose a location for the file.

  4. In the File name box, type a file name, or do nothing to accept the suggested file name.

    Tip: If you want the published presentation to have a different name from the source file that it was published from, type a new name.

  5. In the Save as type box, do one of the following:

    • To set additional Web page formatting and display options, click Web Options, select the options that you want, and then click OK.

    • To designate support for a particular browser or browser version, under Browser support, click the appropriate option.

  8. Click Publish.

You can save an individual slide as an image in a Word document, and then save that document as an .html file.

  1. Right-click the thumbnail of the slide you want to save, and click Copy.

  2. In a new Word document, paste your slide (Ctrl+V). If necessary, drag to resize the slide image to fill the page.

  3. Click File > Save As, and then choose Web Page or Web Page, Filtered.

  1. Click File > Share > Share With People or Invite People > Save to Cloud.
